Advancing Impact Through Investment
OPAL’s wholly owned benefit corporation subsidiary, OPAL Investments, BC, raises capital to bring new investment to a select handful of the projects we see statewide. Investing only in Alabama, these funds support deals that are likely to create attractive risk-adjusted returns for accredited investors while improving quality of life for local residents.
What Makes Us Different
We Know Alabama
Our statewide network of developers, brokers, economic development professionals, community leaders, and property owners brings us unique market insights that help us identify local growth opportunities quickly. We invest accordingly into deals that will move communities forward.
We Implement Tax Advantaged Strategies
From Opportunity Zone incentives to historic tax credits to local revenue sharing, we leverage our knowledge of incentive programs to make sure deals that are good for communities can meet the return expectations of investors. Our team includes a former attorney and expert on federal, state, and local incentives who evaluates every deal for potential enhancement.
We Drive Impact & Economic Development
Beyond meeting the return expectations of our investors, we work hard to ensure that our investments are benefitting their communities. We facilitate and track each project’s potential to meet local needs – like creating new jobs, integrating nonprofit programming, adding accessible housing units, and maximizing participation by disadvantaged business enterprises.

The Story of OPAL Fund
In 2021, OPAL launched The OPAL Fund (Fund I), as our beta test of this investment thesis.
It closed at just under $19M in December 2021 and was fully deployed by late Summer 2022. OPAL Fund investors include banks, family offices, corporations, individuals with capital gains, and even foundations and endowments investing their corpus dollars.
We began this work focused on investing in Alabama’s 158 Opportunity Zones. We now offer multiple vehicles for accredited investors, each with a unique blend of attractive risk-adjusted returns, tax advantages, and economic development / community impact.
